Refund policy

Solent Vintage Limited, company number 17193014, registered in England and Wales.

This policy covers everything sold on solentvintage.co.uk. It is written for you to actually read, not to catch you out. If anything is unclear, get in touch through our contact page before you order.

1. The short version

  • You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind about anything you buy from us, for any reason. Lucky Dip included.
  • Tell us you want to cancel, then you have another 14 days to post the goods back.
  • We refund within 14 days of getting the goods back (or proof you have posted them), to the payment method you used.
  • If something is faulty or not as we described it, that is a different situation with stronger rights, and we pay the return postage.
  • Nothing here limits your statutory rights.

2. The nature of what we sell

Almost everything on this site is vintage or secondhand, and one-of-one. Each garment is individually photographed, graded honestly with flaws named. When you buy it, it is gone — there is no second one on a shelf.

That matters for returns in two honest ways:

  • We cannot exchange. There is no identical replacement to swap in. If you want a different item, return the one you have for a refund and order the other one.
  • Condition is part of the description. A 30-year-old jacket sold as Grade B with the flaws listed is not faulty for being a 30-year-old jacket with those flaws. It would be faulty if it arrived worse than we described it.

3. Changed your mind? Your 14-day right to cancel

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you can cancel your order for any reason, no fault needed:

  • The cancellation period ends 14 days after the day you (or someone you nominate) receive the goods.
  • If your order arrives in separate deliveries, it ends 14 days after the day you receive the last item.
  • You can also cancel any time between placing the order and receiving it.

This applies to single garments and to mystery boxes and Lucky Dip — see section 9.

4. How to cancel

Just tell us, clearly, before the 14 days are up. Any clear statement is enough — a message through our contact page saying "I want to cancel my order [number]" does the job. You do not need to give a reason and you do not need to use any particular form.

If you prefer a form, there is a model cancellation form at the end of this policy (Annex A). Using it is entirely optional.

If you send your cancellation before the deadline, you have met the deadline — even if we read it afterwards.

5. Sending it back

Once you have told us you are cancelling:

  • Post the goods back to us within 14 days of telling us.
  • Returns address: Solent Vintage Limited, c/o Ready Steady Store, M3 Trade Park, Leigh Road, Eastleigh SO50 9YA.
  • Include your order number so we can match the return to you.
  • Return postage: you pay the cost of posting a change-of-mind return. (If the item is faulty or not as described, we pay — see section 8.)
  • We strongly recommend a tracked service, keeping your proof of postage, and packaging the garment at least as well as we packaged it for you. Your proof of postage matters: it is the evidence that starts your refund timeline if the parcel is slow (see section 6), so keep it safe.

6. Your refund

  • We refund within 14 days of receiving the goods back, or within 14 days of you giving us evidence you have posted them, whichever is earlier.
  • If you cancel before you have received the goods, there is nothing to post back, so we refund within 14 days of the day you tell us you are cancelling.
  • The refund goes to the same payment method you used, and we do not charge any fee for refunding.
  • If you return your whole order, we refund the price of the goods plus the standard outbound delivery cost. If you chose a more expensive delivery option than our cheapest standard one, we refund up to the cost of the standard option — the law does not require us to refund the premium and we do not.
  • If you return only some items from a multi-item order, we refund the price of the returned items but not the outbound delivery cost, because the delivery would still have been needed for the items you are keeping.

7. If we reduce your refund

You are entitled to handle the goods to the extent you reasonably need to work out what they are and whether they suit you — broadly, what you could do in a shop. Unfold it, check the measurements against the listing, try it on.

If the value of the goods is reduced because of handling beyond that — for example the item has been worn for a day out, washed, altered, had our labels removed, or comes back smelling of smoke or perfume — we may deduct an amount reflecting that loss in value from your refund. We tell you this here so there are no surprises, and you will also find your cancellation rights before checkout and in your order confirmation.

If we make a deduction we will tell you what it is and why, honestly and specifically. We would far rather refund in full, so treat try-on like a fitting room and this section will never apply to you.

8. Faulty or not as described

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, everything we sell must be of satisfactory quality (taking into account its age, its price, and the condition we described), as described, and fit for purpose. Our grading exists so the description is accurate: named flaws are part of the deal, but an undisclosed flaw, a wrong measurement, or a garment that is not what the listing said is our problem, not yours.

If that happens:

  • Contact us through our contact page with your order number and photos of the issue. We will respond quickly and will not make you jump through hoops.
  • Within 30 days of delivery you have the short-term right to reject the goods for a full refund.
  • After 30 days, the law normally offers repair or replacement first. We will be straight with you: our stock is one-of-one, so replacement is impossible, and repair is rarely realistic on vintage garments. In practice that means you go straight to the final remedies: a refund or, if you would rather keep the item, a price reduction — your choice. If you reject the item within six months of delivery, the refund is in full. After six months the law permits a deduction from the refund for the use you have had of the item; if that ever applies, we will tell you the deduction and the reason before we pay.
  • We pay the return postage for faulty or not-as-described items, and no deduction under section 7 applies.

9. Mystery boxes and Lucky Dip

A Lucky Dip is exactly that. We state the piece count and department before you buy, and we pick the pieces — you do not choose them, and we say so plainly on the listing.

Even so, your 14-day right to cancel applies to Lucky Dip in full. Surprise products are not exempt from cancellation rights, and we will not pretend otherwise. You can return a Lucky Dip simply because you did not like what was inside it. No fault needed, no justification needed.

Two practical points:

  • Return the whole bag — every piece that came in it. A Lucky Dip is sold as one product at one price, so it comes back as one product. The handling rules in section 7 apply to the contents in the same way as any other garment.
  • If the bag does not match what the listing promised — wrong piece count, or pieces below the stated grade — that is a faulty/not-as-described issue under section 8, not a change of mind. Contact us and choose the section 8 remedy that suits you, including a full return and refund at our cost. If you would rather keep the bag, we can agree a partial refund instead — the choice is yours, not ours.

10. Free gifts and discounts

  • If your order included a free gift and you return the order for a refund, please send the gift back with it.
  • If you bought items under a discount and return only some of them, we recalculate honestly: your refund reflects what you actually paid for the returned items, and any discount is re-applied across what you keep only if what you keep still qualifies for it. We will show you the arithmetic.

11. Exchanges

We do not offer exchanges, because we cannot. Every garment is the only one we have, so there is nothing to exchange it for. If you want something else, return the item under this policy for a refund and place a new order. We cannot reserve or hold an item for you while your refund goes through — everything on the site is one-of-one and stays available to everyone until it sells, so if you have your eye on something, order it when you are ready.

12. Your statutory rights

Nothing in this policy limits or replaces your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, or any other law. This policy sits alongside your statutory rights; it does not affect them. If any part of this policy turns out to conflict with the law, the law wins.

Questions about any of this: contact us through our contact page before or after you order.
