Terms of service

These terms apply when you buy from solentvintage.co.uk. Please read them before ordering. Nothing in these terms takes away or limits your rights under UK consumer law, and nothing here affects your statutory rights.

1. Who we are

solentvintage.co.uk is operated by Solent Vintage Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, Company No. 17193014.

Registered office: 12 Glassfield Road, Fareham PO15 7PL, United Kingdom.

You can reach us at sales@solentvintagewholesale.co.uk or through the contact page on this site.

2. What we sell

We sell secondhand and vintage clothing. Every garment on this site has already had a life before it reached us. That is the point of what we do, but it also means you should read each listing carefully before buying.

One-of-one items. Almost everything we list is a single, unique piece. There is exactly one of it, in one size, in one condition. When it sells, it is gone.

Condition and grading. Each listing describes the item's condition honestly. We name flaws rather than hide them, and for one-of-one listings we photograph the item you will actually receive. Where measurements are stated in a listing they are taken with the garment laid flat, and treat label sizes as a guide only — vintage sizing is inconsistent. An item that matches its description, photographs and stated condition is the item you agreed to buy — but this does not affect your rights if something is genuinely wrong with it. Satisfactory quality goes beyond matching a description; see section 9.

Mystery boxes and Lucky Dip. We also sell surprise products. Each listing states the number of pieces and the department, and the condition standard of the contents. You do not choose the individual pieces — that is the nature of the product, and it is stated clearly on the listing. These orders carry the same cancellation and return rights as any other order (see section 8).

3. Placing an order and when the contract is formed

When you place an order, you will receive an order confirmation email. That email acknowledges we have received your order — it is not yet our acceptance of it.

Our acceptance happens, and the contract between us is formed, when we dispatch your order and send you the dispatch confirmation. Until then, either of us can cancel the order, and if we do, any payment you have made will be refunded in full.

We say it this way because of how our stock works, as explained in the next section.

4. If an item turns out to be unavailable

Because our items are one-of-one, there is a rare situation where an item sells here at almost the same moment it sells somewhere else, and we cannot fulfil your order. We work hard to prevent this, and it should almost never happen — but we would rather be straight with you about the possibility than pretend it cannot.

If it happens to your order:

  • we will tell you as soon as we know, with an honest explanation and an apology;
  • we will refund you in full, promptly, to your original payment method;
  • we will not substitute a different item unless you ask us to and agree the choice.

5. Prices and pricing errors

All prices are shown in pounds sterling. The price you pay is the price shown at checkout, plus any delivery charge shown before you confirm your order.

We take care over pricing, but mistakes happen. If we discover a pricing error on an item you have ordered:

  • where the error is obvious and you could reasonably have recognised it as a mistake (for example, a jacket listed at a small fraction of its clear value), we will contact you before dispatch, explain the error, and give you the choice of paying the correct price or cancelling for a full refund;
  • where the error is minor or in your favour and you could not reasonably have spotted it, we will honour the price you paid.

We will never quietly cancel an order over a pricing error without telling you why.

6. Payment

Payment is taken at checkout through the payment providers offered on this site. We do not see or store your full card details. If your payment fails or is declined, the order is not placed and no contract is formed.

7. Dispatch and delivery

We dispatch orders within 2 working days. We only promise dispatch times we actually control; delivery times after dispatch depend on the carrier and are estimates, not guarantees.

Delivery options, costs and our free-delivery threshold are shown at checkout and in our Shipping Policy. If your order has not arrived within a reasonable time of the estimate, contact us and we will chase it and put it right.

8. Your right to cancel, returns and refunds

Because you are buying online, you have the right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 to cancel your order for any reason:

  • you have 14 days from the day you receive your order to tell us you are cancelling — no reason needed;
  • you then have a further 14 days to send the goods back;
  • we will refund you within 14 days of receiving the goods back, or of you providing evidence you have posted them, whichever is earlier.

Your refund covers the price you paid for the goods and the original delivery charge for sending the order to you, capped at the cost of the least expensive standard delivery option we offer. If you chose a more expensive delivery option, we refund the cost of the standard option, not the premium.

This right applies to everything we sell, including mystery boxes and Lucky Dip. If you cancel a Lucky Dip order, the bag must be returned complete, with all the pieces stated on the listing. If pieces are missing, we may deduct the value of the missing pieces from your refund.

Return postage for a change-of-mind cancellation: you pay the cost of the return. Return postage for faulty or not-as-described items is always paid by us (see section 9).

Returns should be sent to: Solent Vintage Limited, c/o Ready Steady Store, M3 Trade Park, Leigh Road, Eastleigh SO50 9YA.

You can handle and inspect the goods as you would in a shop — trying a garment on is fine. If the value of an item is reduced because it has been handled beyond that (worn out, washed, altered), we may deduct an amount reflecting that reduction from your refund.

To tell us you are cancelling, you can use the model cancellation form below, or contact us with any other clear statement saying you are cancelling — an email or a message through the contact page is fine. Full details are in our Refund Policy, which carries this same form.

9. If something is wrong with your order

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, everything we sell must be of satisfactory quality, as described, and fit for purpose. For secondhand goods, satisfactory quality takes into account the item's age, its price, and the condition we described — a described and photographed flaw on a forty-year-old jacket is not a fault, but an undisclosed one is.

If an item arrives faulty, not as described, or otherwise not what you agreed to buy, contact us. Depending on the circumstances you may be entitled to a repair, a replacement (where one exists — usually it will not, given our stock is one-of-one) or a refund, including within the first 30 days a short-term right to reject the goods for a full refund. We will pay the return postage for faulty or not-as-described items.

These rights are in addition to the cancellation right in section 8, and nothing in these terms limits them.

10. Our liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for:

  • death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
  • fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
  • any breach of your statutory rights as a consumer;
  • anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Beyond that, we are responsible for losses you suffer that are a foreseeable result of us breaking this contract or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable when the contract was made, or for business losses — this site sells to consumers for personal use.

11. Website content

We try to keep everything on this site accurate and up to date, including item descriptions, photographs and measurements. Photographs of one-of-one listings show the actual item for sale; screen settings may affect how colours appear. The content of this site (text, photography, branding) belongs to us and may not be reused commercially without our permission.

12. Complaints

If something has gone wrong, tell us. Email sales@solentvintagewholesale.co.uk or use the contact page, and we will look into it and reply with an honest answer, not a scripted one. If you are not happy with our response, you can seek advice from Citizens Advice, and you retain all your legal remedies — making a complaint to us first is not a condition of using them.

13. General

  • Changes to these terms. We may update these terms from time to time. The version in force when you place your order is the one that applies to that order.
  • If part of these terms is unenforceable. If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
  • Transferring the contract. You may not transfer your rights under an order to someone else without our agreement. We will not transfer ours in a way that reduces your rights.
  • Governing law. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute can be brought in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts, and you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of the part of the UK where you live.
